10 simple tips to give your home a decor facelift

Nothing feels better than when your home space is beautiful, but over time your good old lounge or bedroom might become a bit stale. Fresh home decor is an easy solution for restoring your home to its former glory and it doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive as there are plenty of easy and affordable ways to make your home adorable again. Here are my top 10 tips to give your home a decor facelift.

1.Switch up your decor

I know right? It sounds too simple to be true but there are always some things that stand the test of time while others no longer fit the new aesthetic you have in mind. Get rid of decor you no longer like. Use new items, like vases and candles, or hang a few updated pictures of you and your family to refresh your living spaces.

2.Rethink what you already have

Sometimes redoing your decor can be 100% free! It costs nothing to reassess what your room already looks like. A fresh approach to what you already have might be just the thing to brighten up a room. Declutter by getting rid of unwanted knick-knacks and old furniture. Too much clutter is a surefire way to make even the best space look drab and shabby. Donate or sell unwanted items and besides who couldn’t use a little extra cash or karma points?

3.Rearrange your furniture

This takes a little bit of time and possibly some heavy lifting, but on the plus side, it’s a totally free way to breathe new life into your home. Make some simple changes to break up the monotony. It is amazing how by just moving a few things around in each room you can suddenly feel like you are living in a brand new space.

4.Rethink your lighting

Lighting is a great way to rejuvenate a tired room. Replace your light fixtures with something more modern by checking out what the lighting department at your local home decor store has on offer. Quite often you will find great deals. Shed a little eco-friendly light in your home by replacing your old school light bulbs with more energy efficient light bulbs or try a standing lamp for softer lighting.

5.Fix it

Maintenance can be a pain to do but a thorough maintenance check of your home is not only necessary but can remove any little niggles that make your room look dingy. Before you go about getting fresh home decor, make a list of issues and fix and repair all the problem areas in the house. A broken down home will only bring you down with it, so make sure everything is in good working condition.

6.Add light with mirrors

Mirrors are perfect for opening up and bringing light into rooms as well as creating a sense of more space. This cost-friendly alternative to wall art adds some shimmer and elegance to your walls. Mix and match different styles to bring some quirk to even the smallest of spaces.

7.Make your tech blend

Create harmony between gadgets and decor by thinking about how your new toy’s aesthetic will work in your home. Pick smart devices in colors that work well for your space, so that they blend into the background instead of sticking out. Cable management can also go a long way to helping things look neat and tidy.

8.Refresh with flowers

Another simple but useful tip – refresh a room by bringing the outdoors indoors. Add a vase full of colourful, fresh flowers to your living room or kitchen to add some life to dull spaces. If you don’t want expensive fresh home decor, then some flowers will save you money and look great too.

Another alternative is to use simple greenery. A piece of air plant in a glass vase creates an instant contemporary feel and best of all, it doesn’t need watering!

9.Paint or replace dull doors

Doors aren’t always the first thing we think about when it comes to decor but nothing says shabby like a door that looks like it’s been beaten up for years. A simple coat of paint can bring colour and newness into your home – and unlike painting your walls it doesn’t have to break the bank either.

10.Scatter cushions

This is one of my all time favourite budget-friendly decor makeover tips. New scatter cushions can totally renovate the look of your couch. Choose some new scatter cushions that match the theme of the room or reinvent your lounge with some new, exciting colours. Find a few pieces of decor that tie the theme together and your lounge will look as good as new again.
