Mindful eating: the connection between food and gratitude

In the hustle and bustle of our busy lives, it can be easy to overlook the simple pleasures that surround us, especially when it comes to food. But what if I told you that by practising mindful eating, you could not only enhance your culinary experience but also cultivate a deeper sense of gratitude for the nourishment that sustains us? This month I decided to explore the beautiful connection between food and gratitude.

Culinary passport: unveiling global cuisine, festivals & traditions

As a South African food lover, I’ve had the privilege of exploring a diverse range of flavours right here in my own backyard. From the savoury delights of Cape Malay cuisine, influenced by the spice trade and centuries of cultural exchange, to the fiery flavours of a traditional South African braai. There’s no shortage of culinary treasures to discover. But why stop at our borders when there’s a whole world of cultures, cuisine and experiences waiting to be explored? Here are my top ten amazing global culinary adventures I hope to visit (at least some of) someday.

Slow and easy: slow-cooked meals to beat the winter blues

One of the reasons I love winter is because it’s the perfect time to make slow cooked meals like stews, roasts and casseroles. The smell permeates the whole home with a tantalizing aroma, warming not only our hearts but our tummies too. Slow cooked meals are hearty, satisfying, and full of flavour.

Have Yourself A Healthy Little Christmas Roast

It’s that wonderful time of year – family, friends and feasting. I’m sure many of you are already wondering how you’re going to survive the holiday party season, with your health (and waistline) intact. Being part of the Christmas celebration without sabotaging your health goals may be difficult, but it is definitely doable.

Healthy treats – the brownie edition

One of the challenges that many people face when deciding to pursue a healthy lifestyle, is what happens when you want to treat yourself with something sweet? Do you give in and fall of the wagon completely or do you find a healthy alternative? The good news is that you can still treat yourself and stay on a healthy track with one of my favourite treats – the chocolate brownie.

Lebkuchen with a Touch of Orange

Lebkuchen is the German gingerbread that is the go-to recipe for Christmas baking. This is a perfect blend between biscuit and cake with a delicious mixture of honey, almond, ginger and cocoa – jazz this up with a touch orange zest or candied fruit.

Hummus Recipe

Hummus is so versatile. We all know it’s the perfect accompaniment to crudites but it works equally well as a crust for fish and chicken. It’s also incredibly easy to make and by making it yourself you’re guaranteed there are no hidden preservatives, making it extra healthy.
