Top 5 interior design trends for to watch out for in 2019

New year means new trends and as someone who simply loves to change up the look of my home from time to time, I was excited to see what the interior design landscape for this year holds.

Whether you’re planning to remodel your kitchen or just feel like a fresh look for your home and need some inspiration, I’ve done some digging around and found what 2019 interior design trends you should be on the lookout for.

1. Concealed kitchen storage

It is the age of functional interiors and the kitchen is the perfect place to practise this. Having a cluttered kitchen not only looks bad, but also makes working in your kitchen a thankless chore. This is why concealed and clean integration in kitchen designs, with maximized and clever storage solutions, seems to be taking off.

Your kitchen will look sleeker and neater, not to mention freeing up surfaces for you to be able to enjoy making a meal at home. If you’re on a budget this year and not able to do any major remodelling of your whole kitchen, try out my tips on how to easily de-clutter your kitchen here: 5 DIY tips for a clutter free kitchen.

2. Earthy tones and wooden elements

With the focus on environmental issues on the forefront in the world today, more and more people are seeking a connection with nature. Nature has always been a source of inspiration in interior design but this year softer greys, ochre, burnt gold, terracotta and sandy browns combined with wooden features are the trend to watch.

Bringing the feeling of the outdoors indoors creates a calming, airier environment, and wood always has a timeless feel to it. Indoor plants are a great way to bring some nature into your rooms with minimal fuss, I’ve even written an article on how to do that here: DIY indoor plants for health and home.

3. Hunter green

This was the one phrase that popped up endlessly while I was researching 2019 interior design trends and one I’m very excited about. Hunter green certainly is the buzz around town this year. Interior designer Becky Shea described it best when she said. “Hunter green holds a sultry and worldly value to it, it’s intrinsic in nature and all of life.

It’s timeless in every respect, and works beautifully with natural elements and neutral tones.” Which makes sense when natural is the go to look of the season, and this brilliant shade also blends seamlessly with both modern and traditional interiors. If a full room is too much for you, consider small yet impactful ways to bring the colour in. Make use of it in scatter cushions or throw rugs and pair with your wooden fittings.

4. Integrated appliances

It’s all about gadgets, gadgets, gadgets but integrating your appliances and cables means that your home doesn’t end up looking like a hardware store. Sleek and seamless is the look of 2019 and seeing appliances sticking out everywhere just isn’t in anymore.

Some leading appliance manufacturers are now even offering fridges that appear as though they are built into the cabinetry, by squaring off the edging and flattening the face. In short it’s all about opening up spaces and having smooth coherent edges. Cables should be blended into the environment in 2019 or even better – more wireless equipment so you don’t have cable nests ruining your homes look and feel.

5. Stand-alone bold pieces

When it comes to 2019 interior design trends this is one of my favourites. With a stand alone piece you can bring a room to life without breaking the bank. Outfit your lounge or dining area with a unique handcrafted piece of furniture that your adore or a vivid, high-contrast coloured art piece that makes a big, bold statement. This is a really fun trend and I think you’ll be seeing this one a lot this year.

So get to it! Use the trends of the year to give your home a fabulous new look. I would love to see your own take on this year’s trends. What are your favourite interior design trends 2019? Let me know in the comments.
